In order to supply the family-quintet with an instrument in lower range, Carla and her cello joined in when she was 9 years old. She spend an important part of her youth at the local music school in Wageningen, Holland. During secundary school she was involved with many musical- and theatreproductions, she song, danced and played. In this period she also joined the Wageningen student orchestra. Next she studied at the Maastricht Acting School for a year and she spend another year at the school for 'Muziek en Beweging' (Music and Motion) in Rotterdam. Finally she made a definite decision for the Rotterdam Conservatory. She studied the cello with Herre-Jan Stegenga and Ad van Dongen and she graduated in 1993. Because of her interest in chamber music she joined the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the string orchestra Currende and various ad hoc chamber music ensembles. In this period she crossed the North sea once a month to study with William Peeth in London. In the latter half of 1994 she joined Flairck. Carlo plays a cello that was built by Daniel Royé in 1985.
