Cora den Haring
From her third year on she knew which instrument it was that she wanted to play: the harp. However, when she was actually confronted with a harp at the age of ten, her first reaction was: "Anything rather than that!". She then discovered an instrument that did not hide her from view altogether and took her first lessons on a three-quarter cello. After some years she acquired a full-scale cello and went in for the entrance examination of the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where she studied for four years with Jean Decroos. She continued her studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Marien van Staalen. Her life-long passion for large instruments made her decide to start playing the double bass as well. Until now she has played (mainly cello) in a number of different orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Concerto Rotterdam, the Metropolis Orchestra and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. She went on tours to Italy, Spain, Germany and England. Since 1987 she has been playing an old Bohemian "Gustav Lutschg" cello. This instrument was built in Trier over a hundred years ago. After the Flairck production "Chambers", she worked together with the Xynix Foundation, where musicians in addition to their playing also act on stage, in operas especially made for children. In December 1995 she successfully finished her conservatory studies with Marien van Staalen in a "Performing Musician's Exam". She worked as a soloist in several orchestras and played in the "Jasper le Clerqc" jazz-sextet (a string quartet with rhythm-section). She also studied with Ernst Reyseger and after this fouryear break, she returned to Flairck for the current celebration-tour.
